THE MYTH

In Greek mythology, the Labyrinth (Gr.: labýrinthos) was a complex architectural structure located in Knossos. It was designed and built by the engineer Daedalus for the mythical King Minos of Crete. Its purpose was to imprison the Minotaur, a creature that was half man and half bull.

According to the myth, every nine years, seven young men and seven young women were sent from Athens to Crete to be devoured by the Minotaur inside the Labyrinth. The hero Theseus put an end to this sacrifice. He killed the Minotaur and found his way out with the help of Ariadne’s thread.

THE SYMBOLISM

The labyrinth is a powerful symbol of change and transformation, representing the human struggle to find a way toward the exit. Its spiral, intricate structure reflects the mystery and complexity of the human soul. It serves as a metaphor for the journey of self-discovery and inner transformation.

The labyrinth signifies the challenges we must overcome to reach our goals and dreams. It is an invitation to explore who we are and how we fit into the world.

The shape of the labyrinth is reproduced from a coin of the Minoan civilization.
