THE MYTH
The Kri-Kri
The Kri-Kri, also known as the Cretan wild goat or Agrimi, is a wild goat that lives exclusively on the island of Crete. It has been present since the time of the Minoan civilization. The Minoans were fascinated by these animals and often depicted them in their art. Unlike other animals in Minoan scenes, the Kri-Kri does not appear to have had religious significance. Instead, emphasis was placed on the joy of the hunt and admiration for the animal itself. Unfortunately, today the species is endangered and survives only in a few protected areas, such as the Samaria Gorge National Park and three islets near Crete.
