Poseidon, brother of Zeus and Hades, god of the sea, wielded the trident, symbolizing people’s emotional states. Crafted by the Telchines, skilled in metallurgy, it represented the four elements of nature. Poseidon commanded the waters, calming them for sailors or stirring them against foes like Ulysses. He resided between the Nereids and the Tritons, emerging in a golden chariot pulled by winged horses. His wife was Amphitrite, but he had many lovers, including Demeter and Medusa.
